Tourism and professional qualification: theory and practice in the technical-vocational course on organization of events at the Brasilia Campus of The Brazilian Federal Institute (IFB).

This article presents, in general terms, determining factors in offering practical classes as a teaching resource in professional-vocational education. Taking into account the scope and domain of the topic, this research analyses the faculty’s stance in relation to the perceived importance and the development of practical activities in the process of qualifying students within the technical-vocational course on Organization of Events at the Brasilia Campus of The Brazilian Federal Institute (IFB). By means of a descriptive and qualitative research method, this article identifies the relation among practice, theory and curriculum organization and it investigates the extent to which theories and the practices belong to the same domain; moreover, it presents strategies that aim at curriculum integration. Finally, this article presents some considerations as well as the faculty’s perception on practical activities in the Organization of Events course and how it affects in-school factors, the success and the motivation of students in the aforementioned course.
