The incorporation of an element in the technical teams of soccer, with responsibilities directed to the observation and interpretation of the game, is more and more frequent. The coaches, as well as the sports agents belonging to the clubs, have gradually become aware of the advantages and possibilities that a figure with these skills can provide. In this sense, the main purpose of this report is to reflect on the functions of the analyst in a football team, starting from the constraints and problems that have emerged in practice. Therefore, we intend to understand how tasks such as the evaluation of the training, the analysis of the team and the opponents, can positively influence the development of the training and game processes. This objective was consummated through a professional internship held at the Clube Desportivo das Aves, more specifically, having the role of assistant coach / analyst. In this way, it was possible to obtain a detailed notion on the preparation of a professional football team, in its different aspects. In order to assist us in this reflection about the experiences that emerged during the internship, we conducted interviews with elite analysts and also turned to the contributions of several areas of knowledge, with the problematic of complexity as a background. As final considerations, we intend to synthesize some ideas. Attending to all the experiences, reflections and interviews carried out, we can conclude that the presence of an analyst in a football team is essential. Its usefulness reaches several scopes, since the information gathered by this element, in the field of game analysis, are fundamental in the implementation and development of the game model, in the control and adjustment of the training process, as well as in the handling strategic dimension.
