The Body as a Musical Source in a Preschool Context

The following article is based on a musical intervention project work carried out within the Curricular Unit of Supervised Teaching Practice II (PES II), as part of the Master’s Degree in Pre-School Education, with the aim of knowing the contribution of the rhythmic approach of the Dalcroze methodology in Preschool.This project involved twenty-four children aged between three and five years from a room in a Kindergarten (JI) belonging to the district of Viana do Castelo. The study was developed using the project work methodology and data collection was supported by a semistructured interview, structured and unstructured observations and audiovisual recordings. The work developed allowed us to verify that the contribution of Dalcroz’s rhythms is significant in this context, since exercising the rhythmic sense of children also provides the development of concentration capacity and enhances motor development.
