Objetivos: Os professores exercem um papel influente na equidade, acesso e qualidade da educa??o, sendo um elemento-chave para o desenvolvimento global sustent?vel dos alunos e da institui??o em si. Pela import?ncia desta tem?tica, o objetivo geral deste estudo visa analisar a satisfa??o e as preocupa??es dos professores em rela??o ao trabalho, bem como estudar a poss?vel presen?a de sintomatologia psicopatol?gica e os n?veis de autocompaix?o, em fun??o de algumas vari?veis sociodemogr?ficas e profissionais. Metodologia: A amostra foi constitu?da por 1239 professores do Ensino B?sico e Ensino Secund?rio de Portugal continental e regi?o aut?noma dos A?ores (M = 49,40 anos; DP = 7,85) que aceitaram responder ao protocolo de investiga??o composto pelos seguintes instrumentos: Question?rio Sociodemogr?fico e de Satisfa??o Docente; Invent?rio de Sintomas Psicopatol?gicos (BSI) e Escala de Autocompaix?o (SELFCS). Resultados: Na amostra selecionada, a maioria dos participantes (78%) afirmaram n?o estarem satisfeitos comparativamente ao in?cio da sua carreira. Como motivos da sua insatisfa??o, surgem sobretudo a falta de reconhecimento no exerc?cio da profiss?o, a falta de respeito por parte dos alunos e a falta de preocupa??o dos pais em rela??o aos educandos. Por?m, a maior parte da amostra mostrou-se "positiva" na rela??o com o trabalho docente, mesmo que uma percentagem significativa destes tenha alegado estar exausta (29,1%) e desiludida (26%). S?o a "Sociedade" e o "Minist?rio da Educa??o" as principais fontes da falta de reconhecimento, sendo a indisciplina apresentada pelos alunos e a extens?o curricular os problemas que parecem colocar mais dificuldades aos professores da nossa amostra. Tamb?m foi poss?vel constatar que os participantes apresentaram m?dias elevadas nas subescalas somatiza??o, obsess?es- compuls?es, depress?o e ansiedade f?bica, sugerindo assim um maior impacto destas vari?veis psicopatol?gicas no seu funcionamento psicol?gico e emocional. Foi ainda poss?vel atestar a exist?ncia de correla??es positivas altas entre alguma sintomatologia psicopatol?gica e a autocompaix?o nos docentes da nossa amostra. Conclus?o: Foi poss?vel concluir que os professores parecem apresentar altera??es emocionais ao n?vel do seu funcionamento psicol?gico, podendo ser desadaptativas no seu quotidiano. Por isso, ? importante considerar-se a implementa??o de planos de interven??o positiva a n?vel preventivo, salvaguardando e promovendo a sa?de e bem-estar psicol?gico dos professores no sistema de ensino portugu?s. / Objectives: Teachers play an influential role in the equity, access and quality of education, being a key element for the sustainable global development of both the students and the institutions. Due to the importance of this theme, the general objective of this study is to analyze the satisfaction and concerns of teachers in relation to work, as well as to study the possible presence of psychopathological symptoms and levels of self-compassion, according to some sociodemographic and professional variables. Methodology: The sample consisted of 1239 teachers of Basic and Secondary Education in mainland Portugal and the autonomous region of Azores (M = 49.40 years; SD = 7.85) who agreed to answer the research protocol comprised of the following instruments: Sociodemographic and Teacher Satisfaction Questionnaires; Brief-Symptoms Inventory (BSI) and Self Compassion Scale (SELFCS). Results: In the selected sample, the majority of the participants (78%) stated that they were not satisfied in comparison to the beginning of their career. As reasons for their dissatisfaction, there is above all the lack of recognition in the exercise of the profession, the lack of respect on the part of the students and the lack of concern of the parents for the students. However, most of the sample has shown to be "positive" in relation to the teaching work, even though a significant percentage of them claimed to be exhausted (29.1%) and disillusioned (26%). Our "Society" and the "Ministry of Education" are the main sources of the lack of recognition, with the indiscipline presented by the students and the curricular extension being the problems that seem to pose more difficulties to the teachers in our sample. It was also possible to verify that the participants had high averages in the subscales somatization, obsessions-compulsions, depression and phobic anxiety, thus suggesting a greater impact of these psychopathological variables on their psychological and emotional functioning. It was also possible to attest to the existence of high positive correlations between some psychopathological symptoms and self- compassion in the teachers of our sample. Conclusion: It was possible to conclude that teachers seem to present emotional changes in terms of their psychological functioning, which can be maladaptive in their daily lives. Therefore, it is important to consider the implementation of positive intervention plans at a preventive level, safeguarding and promoting the health and psychological well-being of teachers in the Portuguese education system.
