Multidimensional Academic Evaluation using the "U-Multirank"

Resumo: Evaluation of Academic Institutions is of great interest in the world, always causing controversies. This subject is current in Brazil, because Capes studies new forms of evaluation for Brazilian Graduate Programs. The main idea is to use multidimensional models, to consider aspects that are important for academic institutions and the communities where they operate, but that are not captured by the current evaluation, which is very focused on results generated by cutting-edge research. In the absence of multidimensional assessment methods in Brazil, it is useful to analyze international experiences in this area, to improve the understanding of how they work. In this scenario, the international academic ranking “U-Multirank” stands out. It was created in Europe and has results available since 2014. The present paper will analyze the Dimensions and Indicators of this ranking and, based on Spanish Education Institutions, will show the correlations between Dimensions and Indicators in this country.

Este tema es actual en Brasil, ya que Capes estudia nuevas formas de evaluación para el posgrado. La idea principal es utilizar un modelo multidimensional, para valorar aspectos que son importantes para las instituciones académicas y las comunidades donde operan, pero que no son captados por la evaluación actual, que está muy enfocada en resultados generados por investigación de vanguardia. En ausencia de evaluación académica multidimensional en Brasil, es útil analizar las experiencias internacionales en esta área, para mejorar la comprensión de cómo funcionan. En este escenario, destaca el ranking académico internacional “U-Multirank”, creado en Europa y que tiene resultados desde 2014. Este estudio analizará las Dimensiones e Indicadores de este ranking y, en base a las Instituciones Educativas españolas, mostrará las correlaciones entre Dimensiones e Indicadores en este país.Avaliação de Instituições Acadêmicas é um tópico de grande interesse no mundo, e sempre trouxe muitas polêmicas. Esse assunto é atual no Brasil, pois a Capes estuda novas formas de avaliação para a Pós-Graduação brasileira. A idéia principal é usar um modelo multidimensional, de forma a valorizar aspectos que são importantes para Instituições acadêmicas e as comunidades onde estão inseridas, mas que não são captados pela avaliação atual, bastante focada em resultados gerados por pesquisas de ponta. Na ausência de uso de métodos multidimensionais de avaliação acadêmica no Brasil, é útil analisar experiências internacionais nessa área, para aprimorar o entendimento de como eles funcionam. Nesse cenário destaca-se o ranking acadêmico internacional “U-Multirank”, criado na Europa e que tem resultados desde 2014.
