Resumo: A research was conducted at Santa Rosa Swine Evaluation Station, in Rio Grande do Sul State, with the purpose to study the viability of partial substitution of com diets for pigs, during the growing-finishing periods, by rice grain polished and broken at the leveis of 0, 20,40 and 60%. Forty castrated male pigs, belonging to the Large White breed were used, with an average liveweight of 26 kg at the begining of the experiment. The animais were divided into four treatments with ten replications each. The results showed no statistical differences (P> 0.05) among the treatments concerning the period to reach 100 kg live weight, feed intake daily average weight gain, food-conversion.and carcass characteristics (body length, longissimus muscle shapesl average backfat, meat/fat ratio and ham weight). Rice grain, polished and broken, may replace com on swine diets up to the level of 60%, or 45% of the diets. The digestion and digestible energy of the diets was determined by the Indicator Index Method (Cr 203).

The digestion and digestible energy of the diets was determined by the Indicator Index Method (Cr 203).
