The study aimed to understand how the nursing care to people with deafness and dumbness hospitalized in the voice of nursing professionals. A qualitative study was descriptive and exploratory, whose data were collected in January and February 2018, through semi-structured interviews with 27 professionals from a general hospital. The data analysis followed the steps of the thematic analysis. Nursing care according to the participants of the study is permeated by difficulties, especially in communication, for which use the employment of alternative strategies to verbal language. As a facilitating factor for the careful mention the presence of a family member or companion. Emphasizes the lack of education and training in the area. The professionals have weaknesses to provide a precedent and effective assistance to this public, as a strategy of qualification is entered the permanent education.
