The complex archival, market and affective relationships in the practices of preservation and sharing of the Grupo Globo television archive: the case of the Globoplay platform

Resumo: The study aims to elucidate the complex archival, market and affective relationships in the face of Grupo Globo's television archive preservation and sharing practices. It starts from the premise that the television recollection does not include functions strictly linked to the archival value of its productions. Thus, the study is based on the exponential advance of video-on-demand technology in which the archival practice is also related to the market and affective value contained in the availability of the broadcaster's audiovisual works. Therefore, the object of analysis is the Globoplay streaming platform, responsible for making Grupo Globo's audiovisual collection public, such as the telenovelas that constitute the cultural history of Brazilian television. The study is outlined through a qualitative approach, in light of the theoretical-methodological precepts of the Case Study (YIN, 2015) based on interviews, journalistic materials, and other investigation sources. In addition to the archival function of the contents offered by Globoplay, the authors conclude that the archive performs multiple functions of different orders, such as the affective and market function, which are subordinated and guarantee its existence.

Se parte de la premisa de que el rescate televisivo no incluye funciones estrictamente ligadas al valor archivístico de sus producciones. Así, el estudio se basa en el avance exponencial de la tecnología del video bajo demanda, en el que la práctica archivística también se relaciona con el valor comercial y afectivo contenido en la disponibilidad de las obras audiovisuales de la emisora. Como objeto de análisis, discutimos la plataforma de streaming Globoplay, responsable de hacer público el acervo audiovisual del Grupo Globo, con énfasis en el proyecto de devolución de títulos antiguos. El estudio se plantea a través de un enfoque cualitativo, a la luz de los preceptos teórico-metodológicos del Estudio de Caso (YIN, 2015), a partir de entrevistas, artículos periodísticos y otras fuentes de investigación. Además de la función de archivo de los contenidos ofrecidos por Globoplay, los autores concluyen que el archivo tiene múltiples funciones, de diferente orden, como las funciones afectivas y de marketing, que se subordinan y garantizan su existencia.O presente estudo tem como objetivo elucidar as complexas relações arquivísticas, mercadológicas e afetivas diante das práticas de preservação e compartilhamento do arquivo televisivo do Grupo Globo. Parte-se da premissa de que o resgate televisivo não comporta funções estritamente ligadas ao valor arquivístico de suas produções. Assim, o estudo discorre com base no avanço exponencial da tecnologia de video-on-demand, em que a prática arquivística também se relaciona com o valor mercadológico e afetivo contido na disponibilização das obras audiovisuais da emissora. Como objeto de análise discorremos a respeito da plataforma de streaming Globoplay, responsável por tornar público o acervo audiovisual do Grupo Globo, com ênfase no projeto de retorno dos títulos antigos. O estudo se delineia por meio da abordagem qualitativa, à luz dos preceitos teórico-metodológicos do Estudo de Caso (YIN, 2015), com base em entrevistas, matérias jornalísticas, e outras fontes de investigação.
