Mathematics and social representations: a qualitative and quantitative study based on theses and dissertations

Resumo: The use of the Theory of Social Representations has been frequent in several areas of knowledge, mainly in the field of Health and Education. In this exploratory study, through a bibliographic investigation, type of state of the art, we aim to identify and analyze the dissertations and theses that relate the study of the Theory of Social Representations with Mathematics, aiming to draw a profile about these investigations, analyzing qualitative and quantitative aspects. In our categorizations we present the number and percentage of works by Brazilian geographic regions, the subjects who build social representations, the objects of representations, in addition to other characteristics of the research. From the survey carried out, from the analysis of the works, it was possible to observe a predominance of the Northeast region in the conduct of research involving the theory of social representations with the mathematical object, mainly in two UFPE graduate programs, signaling the existence of research groups that develop works in this direction, evolution in the number of production in the areas under investigation, an expressive number of dissertations produced (18), in opposition to the few theses (3), as well as a multiplicity of objects of social representations by different groups.

En este estudio exploratorio, a través de una investigación bibliográfica, tipo de estado del arte, buscamos identificar y analizar las disertaciones y tesis que relacionan el estudio de la Teoría de las representaciones sociales con las matemáticas, con el objetivo de dibujar un perfil sobre estas investigaciones, analizando aspectos cualitativos y cuantitativos. En nuestras categorizaciones presentamos la cantidad y el porcentaje de trabajos por regiones geográficas brasileñas, los sujetos que construyen representaciones sociales, los objetos de las representaciones, además de otras características de la investigación. A partir de la encuesta realizada, del análisis de los trabajos, fue posible observar un predominio de la región noreste en la realización de investigaciones que involucran la teoría de las representaciones sociales con el objeto matemático, principalmente en dos programas de posgrado de la UFPE, lo que indica la existencia de grupos de investigación que desarrollan trabajos en esta dirección, evolución en el número de producción en las áreas bajo investigación, un número expresivo de disertaciones producidas (18), en oposición a las pocas tesis (3), así como una multiplicidad de objetos de representaciones sociales por diferentes grupos.A utilização da Teoria das Representações Sociais tem sido frequente em diversas áreas de conhecimento, principalmente no campo da Saúde e da Educação. Neste estudo exploratório, através de uma investigação bibliográfica, tipo estado da arte, objetivamos identificar e analisar as dissertações e teses que relacionam o estudo da Teoria das Representações Sociais com a Matemática, visando traçar um perfil acerca dessas investigações, analisando aspectos qualitativos e quantitativos. Em nossas categorizações, apresentamos a quantidade e o percentual de trabalhos por regiões geográficas brasileiras, os sujeitos que constroem representações sociais, os objetos de representações, além de outras características das pesquisas.
