Resumo: We present a research aimed at investigating the performance of high school students in youth and adult education (EJA) when interpreting statistical graphs. To that end, we rely on studies on statistical education and on research results that address statistical thinking and literacy and particularize the punctual, global and variational dimensions in the interpretation of graphs. The research was carried out with twenty-three students from a school in the metropolitan region of Recife in Pernambuco, who resolved five activities of interpretation of line and column graphs published by the media, of which we present two in this article. Theanalyses show that the students performed well when they answered questions inherent to the isolated points (punctual dimension), while they had difficulty answering questions involving the global and variational dimensions. These results are close to the findings of research carried out in other teaching contexts and point to the need to rethink the way in which the interpretation of graphs has been worked in basic education and, in this particular case, in the teaching of young people and adults who attend high school.
