The educational perspective in mathematical modeling: a new terrain for Brazilian research?

Resumo: This essay brings about a reflective effort about the educational perspective in mathematical modeling expression. Throughout my experiences with studies on mathematical modeling in the context of teacher education, this nomenclature has made sense because it allows me to reflect on the terrain of existing productions in Brazilian literature. I present a categorization of the thematic focuses of the productions published in the latest edition of the SIPEM, followed by the reflections that the analysis of these focuses enlightened me about the educational perspective in mathematical modeling expression. In general terms, this expression evidences the strength and representativeness of Teacher Education in Mathematical Modeling in research, as well as the emergence, of a terrain that admits particularities that naturally follow an intentional movement of the community itself. This terrain enhances a research theme that can boost educational actions since research and practice in the field of mathematical modeling suggest that they cannot be dissociated.

En el fluir de mis experiencias con estudios sobre Modelamiento Matemático en el contexto de la Formación Docente, esta nomenclatura ha cobrado sentido porque me permite reflexionar sobre el terreno de las producciones existentes en la literatura brasileña. Presento una categorización de los focos temáticos de las producciones publicadas en la última edición del SIPEM, seguida de reflexiones que el análisis de estos focos me esclareció sobre la expresión perspectiva formativa en Modelación Matemática. En términos generales, esta expresión evidencia la fortaleza y representatividad de la Formación Docente en Modelación Matemática en la investigación, así como el surgimiento de un terreno que admite particularidades que naturalmente siguen un movimiento intencional de la propia comunidad. Este terreno realza un tema de investigación que puede potenciar acciones formativas ya que la investigación y la práctica en el campo de la Modelación Matemática sugieren que no pueden disociarse.Este ensaio se apresenta como um esforço reflexivo acerca da expressão perspectiva formativa em Modelagem Matemática. No fluxo das minhas vivências com estudos sobre a Modelagem Matemática no contexto da Formação de Professores, essa nomenclatura tem feito sentido por me permitir refletir sobre o terreno das produções existentes na literatura brasileira. Apresento uma categorização sobre os focos temáticos das produções publicadas na última edição do SIPEM, seguido das reflexões que a análise desses focos me aclarou sobre a expressão perspectiva formativa em Modelagem Matemática. Em linhas gerais, essa expressão evidencia a força e representatividade da Formação de Professores em Modelagem Matemática na pesquisa, bem como a emergência de um terreno que admite particularidades que seguem, naturalmente, um movimento intencional da própria comunidade.
