Algebra in the early years of Elementary School: possible theoretical and practical connections

Resumo: | The paper aims to present possible theoretical and practical connections for teaching algebra in the early years of Elementary School (ES). It has a qualitative approach, developed from a documental study of the Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (PCN) and the Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC). In the PCN, the algebra was one of the contents of the Numbers and Operations block and its explicit approach in the Middle School. The Base document presents Algebra as one of the five thematic units of Mathematics, proposing to work on it since the 1st year of ES. Through investigative activities and problem solving, the study of: figural and numerical patterns is recommended; recursive and repetitive sequences involving numbers, objects or figures; relations and properties of equality in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division operations with natural numbers; inverse relations between addition and subtraction and between multiplication and division; directly proportional quantities and partition of a whole into two proportional parts. Given the above, it is suggested that Higher Education institutions promote continuing training on the subject and that teachers seek to participate, in an attempt to bring to the classroom, opportunities for the development of algebraic thinking, since the early years of ES. |

Tiene un enfoque cualitativo, desarrollado a partir de un estudio documental de los Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (PCN) y la Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC). En PCN, el álgebra fue uno de los contenidos del bloque Números y operaciones y su enfoque explícito en los últimos años de la EP. El documento Base presenta el álgebra como una de las cinco unidades temáticas de Matemáticas, proponiendo trabajar en ella desde el 1er año de la EP. A través de actividades de investigación y resolución de problemas, se recomienda el estudio de: patrones numéricos y figurativos; secuencias recursivas y repetitivas que involucran números, objetos o figuras; relaciones y propiedades de igualdad en operaciones de suma, resta, multiplicación y división con números naturales; relaciones inversas entre suma y resta y entre multiplicación y división; cantidades directamente proporcionales y partición de un todo en dos partes proporcionales. Dado lo anterior, se sugiere que las instituciones de educación superior promuevan la formación continua en la materia y que los profesores busquen participar, en un intento de traer al aula, oportunidades para el desarrollo del pensamiento algebraico, desde los primeros años de la EP.O artigo tem por objetivo apresentar possíveis conexões teóricas e práticas para o ensino de álgebra nos anos iniciais do Ensino Fundamental (EF). Possui abordagem qualitativa, desenvolvida a partir de um estudo documental dos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (PCN) e da Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC). Nos PCN, a álgebra compunha um dos conteúdos do bloco Números e Operações e sua abordagem explícita nos anos finais do EF. O documento da Base apresenta a álgebra como uma das cinco unidades temáticas da Matemática, propondo trabalhá-la desde o 1º ano do EF. Por meio de atividades investigativas e da resolução de problemas, é indicado o estudo de: padrões figurais e numéricos; sequências recursivas e repetitivas envolvendo números, objetos ou figuras; relações e propriedades da igualdade em operações de adição, subtração, multiplicação e divisão com números naturais; relações inversas entre adição e subtração e entre multiplicação e divisão; grandezas diretamente proporcionais e partição de um todo em duas partes proporcionais.
