Contributions of the use of mobile devices to mathematical teaching approaches in High School

Resumo: This paper presents part of a research that aimed to determine the contributions of mobile devices (smartphones) to the study of mathematical contents and fostering of motivational actions in the subject. The research participants were high school first-year students from two Mathematics classes in a federal institute of technology in Brazil. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the researchers sought to develop, apply and investigate a teaching proposal supported theoretically by publications on the use of mobile devices in the Mobile Learning concept. The Design-Based Research was the chosen research methodology for this study. The developed mobile learning strategies were devised as to achieve the desired goals and outcome. The results show that the use of smartphones and mobile applications allowed improvement in the students’ performance as it contributed to a better content apprehension as well as to fostering motivation and engagement in the subject.

Los participantes de la investigación fueron estudiantes de dos clases de matemáticas del primer año de la educación secundaria en un Instituto Federal. Para lograr el objetivo, los investigadores buscaron desarrollar, aplicar e investigar una propuesta didáctica con el sustento teórico de los trabajos y textos publicados sobre el uso de dispositivos móviles en la concepción del Aprendizaje Móvil. La metodología de investigación fue Investigación basada en el diseño. Las estrategias de aprendizaje móvil desarrolladas fueron diseñadas con el fin de lograr los objetivos y los resultados deseados. Los resultados muestran que el uso del teléfono inteligente y sus aplicaciones permitió incrementar la formación de los estudiantes, contribuyendo a la comprensión de los contenidos y a la promoción de la motivación y el compromiso de los alumnos en la disciplina.Neste artigo apresentamos parte de uma pesquisa que teve o intuito de identificar as contribuições do uso de dispositivos móveis (smartphones) para o estudo de conteúdos matemáticos e para a promoção de ações de motivação na disciplina. Os participantes da pesquisa foram os alunos de duas turmas de Matemática do primeiro ano do Ensino Médio em um Instituto Federal. Para atingir o objetivo, os pesquisadores buscaram desenvolver, aplicar e investigar uma proposta de ensino tendo como suporte teórico os trabalhos e textos publicados sobre o uso de dispositivos móveis na concepção do Mobile Learning. A metodologia de pesquisa foi a Design Based Research. As estratégias de aprendizagem móvel desenvolvidas foram esquematizadas de forma a alcançar os objetivos e resultados almejados.
