Matrices and cryptography: contributions of an activity about Whatsapp in High School

Providing activities with applicability of mathematical content has been one of the great demands of students of basic education. Matrix content, when addressed in the second grade of high school, is one of the targets of questioning by students about its practical utility. Given the transformations and technological innovations, content related to this theme seems to gain more attention from students, proving to be a possible teaching strategy for the mathematics teacher. In this sense, the theme cryptography was used through the methodology of the Fedathi Sequence, complemented by worksheets  involving WhatsApp, to provoke the students to the knowledge. Through class recordings, photos, logbook and material produced by the students, it was possible to verify the stimulus to curiosity, the active participation of the students in the classes and a new attribution of meaning to the content of matrices.
