The education of Botany in the context of public schools in Altamira-PA: a study on difficulties and possibilities

Resumo: | This article presents the results of a research with a qualitative approach, developed in 2019, with the goals of: (1) knowing the opinions of Science/Biology teachers about obstacles and possibilities for the teaching of Botany; (2) analyzing the possibilities for the Science/Biology teacher to build a school herbarium as an attractive methodological strategy for the teaching of Botany, with the participation of the students as protagonists. The research collected data through contact with two groups of subjects: 1. Science and Biology teachers who work in public schools in the city of Altamira-PA; 2. High school students from one of these teachers’ schools. As techniques and instruments for data collectin, the researchers used interviews with semi-structured script with teachers and direct observation and conversation with students. Among the results achieved, it is highlighted that the greatest obstacle for the teaching of Botany in these schools is strongly related to the lack of didactic materials for more attractive practical classes that are easily accessible to teachers. Thus, we also emphasize that the production of a school herbarium can be a viable possibility to face this problem/obstacle. |

Thus, we also emphasize that the production of a school herbarium can be a viable possibility to face this problem/obstacle.Este artículo presenta los resultados de una investigación cualitativa, desarrollada en 2019, con el objetivo de: (1) conocer las opiniones de los profesores de Ciencias/Biología al respecto de los obstáculos y posibilidades para la enseñanza de la Botánica; y (2) analizar las posibilidades del profesor de Ciencias/Biología para construir un herbario escolar como una estrategia metodológica atractiva para la enseñanza de la Botánica, a través de la participación protagónica de los estudiantes. La investigación recogió datos por medio del contacto con dos grupos de sujetos: 1. Profesores de Ciencias y Biología que actúan en escuelas públicas de la ciudad de Altamira-PA; y 2. Estudiantes de secundaria de una de las escuelas dónde actúan esos profesores. Como técnicas y herramientas para la recolección de datos, los investigadores utilizaron entrevistas con un plan semiestructurado junto a los profesores y observación directa y rueda de conversación con los estudiantes. Entre los resultados alcanzados, se destaca que el mayor obstáculo para la enseñanza de la Botánica en estas escuelas está fuertemente relacionado con la falta de materiales didácticos para las clases prácticas más atractivas y que las mismas sean accedidas fácilmente por los profesores. Así, también destacamos que la producción de herbario escolar puede ser una posibilidad viable para enfrentar este problema/obstáculo.Este artigo apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa, desenvolvida em 2019, com os objetivos de: (1) conhecer opiniões de professores de Ciências/Biologia sobre entraves e possibilidades para o ensino de Botânica; e (2) analisar possibilidades para que o professor de Ciências/Biologia construa um herbário escolar como estratégia metodológica atrativa para o ensino de Botânica, mediante a participação protagonista dos alunos. A pesquisa coletou dados por meio do contato com dois grupos de sujeitos: 1. Professores de Ciências e Biologia que atuam em escolas públicas na cidade de Altamira-PA; e 2. Alunos do Ensino Médio de uma das escolas desses professores. Como técnicas e instrumentos de coleta de dados, os pesquisadores usaram entrevista com roteiro semiestruturado junto aos professores e observação direta e roda de conversa com os alunos. Entre os resultados alcançados destaca-se que o maior entrave para o ensino de Botânica nessas escolas está fortemente relacionado à falta de materiais didáticos para aulas práticas mais atrativas e que sejam de fácil acesso para os professores.
