Resumo: | To the education of any person in the contemporary world, the notion about what happens in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), that is, its main results, their methods, uses, risks and limitations, as well as the interests and determinations that govern its processes and applications, is essential. Teachers are great influence in the imagination of their students, particularly children, and has an important role in the formation of critical citizens and promoting decision-makers on matters of Science, Technology and Innovation. This study aims to identify and analyze the scientific culture of teachers of Basic Education of Minas Gerais, in the light of Public Understanding of Science research models, focused on the process of the Education Course from Universidade Aberta do Brasil/ UFMG (Open University Brazil/UFMG). In a first moment, we developed the survey through a questionnaire with open and closed questions applied to teachers of basic education. In this questionnaire we raised data about the teacher’s understanding of science, attitudes, evaluation, general knowledge and theirs pedagogical practice. At present, the research is being conducted through semi-structured in-depth interviews with a sample of 10% of the teachers. It is expected to encourage future research, outreach programs and scientific training for teachers to be qualified to teach science in the contemporary world. |

It is expected to encourage future research, outreach programs and scientific training for teachers to be qualified to teach science in the contemporary world.Para a educação de qualquer pessoa no mundo contemporâneo, é fundamental a noção sobre o que acontece em Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação (CT&I), isto é, seus principais resultados, seus métodos, usos, riscos e limitações, bem como, os interesses e determinações que governam seus processos e aplicações. O professor é um formador de opinião de grande influência na construção do imaginário de seus alunos, principalmente das crianças, e possui um papel relevante na formação de cidadãos críticos e na promoção da tomada de decisão para assuntos de Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação. O presente estudo tem como objetivo identificar e analisar a cultura científica de professores da Educação Básica, à luz dos modelos de pesquisa em Percepção Pública da Ciência. No primeiro momento, desenvolvemos a pesquisa por meio de um questionário com perguntas fechadas e abertas aplicadas em professores da Educação Básica.
