Resumo: The following article discusses ballroom dance as a space for invention and learning. Ballroom dances are understood as a social field that is organized around the interest in this specific dance technique. To conceptualize this, we draw from the writings of Tonial (2011) and Dickow (2020), who research ballroom dance. The notion of technique is delineated through Mauss (2003) and Ortega y Gasset (1963), in addition to the writings of Taylor (2013) and Schechner (2003) regarding performance, allowing us to view ballroom dances as a learning system and as a social context and practice that can be defined by its social significance and history.

Se entiende, pues, los bailes de salón como un campo social que se organiza a partir de los intereses por esta técnica específica de danza. Para esa conceptualización , se parte de los escritos de Tonial (2011) y Dickow (2020), que investigan acerca de los bailes de salón. La noción técnica es delimitada por Mauss (2003), además de Ortega y Gasset (1963), se cuenta, también, con los escritos de Taylor (2013) y Schechner (2003) en respecto a la performance, lo que permite observar los bailes de salón como un sistema de aprendizaje y como contexto y práctica social que puede ser delimitado por su sentido social y por su historia.O artigo a seguir discorre a respeito dos bailes de dança de salão como um espaço de invenção e aprendizagem. Entende-se, pois, as danças de salão (DS) como um campo social que se organiza a partir do interesse por essa técnica específica de dança. Para tal conceituação, parte-se dos escritos de Tonial (2011) e Dickow (2020), que pesquisam a respeito de dança de salão.
