Fashion in the digital age: exploring metaverse trends, nfts and sustainability

Resumo: | The article stems from an exploratory research on the digitalization and virtualization trend in the world and aims to encourage discussion about this phenomenon in fashion, seeking to understand how this process occurred from materials, textile innovations, production processes to its total dematerialization. Dematerialization is accelerated by digital technology, happy and flexible, expanding the migration from products to services, “Tolkinizing” “things”, in short, replacing the tangible with the intangible. As a research methodology, we have netnography and the description of a methodological path that used the internet itself, as a place of data production. As a result, we observed that the insertion of fashion in the digital universe took place first, through different technologies that streamlined the production process, then through its approach to the area of games, followed by the development of digital products (cards, filters, among others) sold as NFTs and their inclusion in the virtual spaces known as the metaverse. This digitization and virtualization of fashion amplifies its ability to stand as a way of highlighting the symbolic element of digital clothing in the interaction of subjects and a reflection of society in which, as a refuge in the virtual environment, it is an increasingly constant reality, participating in the requests that the internet constitutes a space for social interaction, including for fashion. |

La dématérialisation est accélérée par le numérique, heureux et flexible, élargissant la migration des produits vers les services, « Tolkinisant » les « choses », bref, remplaçant le tangible par l’intangible. Comme méthodologie de recherche, nous avons la netnographie et la description d’un parcours méthodologique qui a utilisé Internet lui-même, comme lieu de production de données. De ce fait, nous avons observé que l’insertion de la mode dans l’univers numérique s’est faite d’abord, à travers différentes technologies qui rationalisaient le processus de production, puis à travers son approche du domaine des jeux, suivie par le développement de produits numériques (cartes, filtres, entre autres) vendus sous le nom de NFT et leur inclusion dans les espaces virtuels connus sous le nom de métaverse. Cette numérisation et virtualisation de la mode amplifie sa capacité à se positionner comme un moyen de mettre en valeur l’élément symbolique du vêtement numérique dans l’interaction des sujets et un reflet de la société dans laquelle, comme refuge dans l’environnement virtuel, il est une réalité de plus en plus constante, participer aux demandes selon lesquelles Internet constitue un espace d’interaction sociale, y compris pour la mode.O artigo decorre de uma pesquisa exploratória sobre tendência de digitalização e virtualização do mundo e objetiva fomentar a discussão sobre este fenômeno na moda, buscando compreender como ocorreu este processo desde os materiais, inovações têxteis, processos produtivos a sua desmaterialização total. Desmaterialização esta acelerada pela tecnologia digital, transformando as interações, ampliando a migração de produtos para serviços, “tolkinizando” as “coisas”, enfim, substituindo o tangível pelo intangível. Como metodologia de pesquisa temos a netnografia e a descrição de um percurso metodológico que utilizou a própria internet, como local de produção de dados. Como resultado, observamos que a inserção da moda no universo digital se deu primeiro, por diferentes tecnologias que agilizaram o processo produtivo, depois por sua aproximação da área dos jogos, seguindo para desenvolvimento de produtos digitais (cards, filtros, dentre outros) vendidos como NFTs e sua inclusão nos espaços virtuais conhecidos como metaverso.
