Resumo: | This article aims to carry out a descriptive analysis of a teaching-learning experience of Sign Language Audiovisual Translation (TALS, acronym in Brazilian Portuguese) in a university extension activity developed at the Laboratory of Sign Language Audiovisual Translation (Latravilis) of the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). It is the translation of a sit-com type comedy series entitled “Baby & Rose”, produced with the support of Agência Nacional do Cinema (ANCINE) and shown on the closed channel MultiShow. The activity was based on the didactic-pedagogical proposal of Nascimento (2014), which is based on the theoretical-methodological articulation between Bakhtinian approach and Sign Language Translation and Interpretation Studies, and which considers five phases for the construction of the translation process of audiovisual materials in the sign language translators and interpreters’ education: (i) mobilization of translators to reflect on the genre of speech to be translated; (ii) exploration of the genre based on the identification of interlocutory, compositional, stylistic and thematic aspects; (iii) mapping of verbal-visual elements that will be transposed to the text in sign language; (iv) translation preparation through different strategies; and (v) carrying out the translation and recording on video. The university extension project provided students with the opportunity to get in touch with a real demand for TALS in a controlled, supervised environment and with the pedagogical support of trained teacher-translators, highlighting the need to train Libras translators and interpreters who know how to deal with demands related to the audiovisual sector. |
