Translation and research: the use of a bilingual questionnaire to map usability and preferences of sign-language screen insets among the deaf community

Resumo: This article discusses the process of drafting, translating and validating a bilingual questionnaire for evaluating the preferences and usability of sign-language screen insets among the deaf in Brazil. The questionnaire was prepared and translated by a team using translation and AV-editing techniques theoretically and methodologically based on Bakhtinian verbal-visuality and intermodal translation and interpretation. Once drafted, the questionnaire was submitted to deaf Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) speakers, and the final version was disseminated throughout Brazil in social networks, e-mail lists and online groups with significant deaf participation.

O questionário foi elaborado e traduzido em equipe, considerando aspectos tradutórios e técnicos de edição audiovisual, e adotou, como base teórico-metodológica, concepções advindas da perspectiva bakhtiniana e suas contribuições para o estudo da verbo-visualidade e da tradução e interpretação intermodal.
