Resumo: This paper aims to stablish a relation between the concept of psychological identity and affective forecast. The concept of identity employed is derived from the narrative paradigm in cognitive psychology. The studies of Gilbert (1998;2000;2001) related to affective forecast are presented. Affective forecast is the capacity of predict future emotional states (GILBERT et al. 1998). The guiding hypothesis is that the studies of personal identity have much to gain if they integrate the fact that individual use future emotional states when they are formulating what they are at the present. The present work aims to demonstrate conceptually how individuals link past, present and future via affective forecasts. The results points to several gaps that tends to remain open if the research of identity does not address affective forecast as a part of identity building. Furthermore, the concept of narrative identity has been the most useful to the problem at hand.

O conceito de identidade utilizado é derivado do paradigma cognitivo narrativo em psicologia, quanto à predição afetiva baseia-se sobretudo nos trabalhos de Gilbert (1998; 2000; 2001). Segundo este autor, a predição afetiva diz respeito à capacidade da pessoa predizer qual será seu futuro estado emocional (GILBERT et al. 1998). A hipótese norteadora desta pesquisa é que os estudos acerca da identidade psicológica têm muito a se beneficiar caso levem em consideração a relação que os indivíduos estabelecem entre aquilo que eles são no presente e aquilo que eles se programam para ser, ou acreditam que serão no futuro. Os resultados da investigação apontam para várias lacunas teóricas que permanecem não-endereçadas.
