Resumo: This summary is the result of a doctoral research that brings the biography of Maria Lilian Teixeira, a black woman, a waste picker, who, in the face of adversity, reached schooling and is currently completing her Social Work course. The thesis highlights the mishaps of the biographer in relation to work, education and the daily struggle for schooling from early childhood education to entering university. The research aims to understand the overcoming strategies in the educational path and in its formative performance that made it possible to leave child labor in the Jangurussu dump, on the outskirts of Fortaleza-Ceará, and enter a higher education course. The work was theoretically supported in the New Cultural History, methodologically in the Oral History and in the biographical genre. The results showed that Maria Lilian Teixeira was a poor child who was born, grew up, married and had children in the middle of the Jangurussu Lixão environment. He suffered child labor in this dump because it was a means of survival and sustenance for the family. Maria Lilian Teixeira, however, managed to become a woman recognized for her social work of an educational nature within the adverse life scenario of garbage collectors.

A tese destaca os percalços da biografada em relação ao trabalho, educação e luta cotidiana por escolarização desde a educação infantil até ingressar na universidade. A pesquisa tem como objetivo compreender as estratégias de superação no percurso educacional e na sua atuação formativa que lhe possibilitaram sair do trabalho infantil no lixão do Jangurussu, periferia de Fortaleza-Ceará, e ingressar em um curso de ensino superior. O trabalho amparou-se teoricamente na Nova História Cultural, metodologicamente na História Oral e no gênero biográfico. Os resultados apontaram que Maria Lilian Teixeira foi uma criança pobre que nasceu, cresceu, casou-se e teve filhos em meio ao ambiente do Lixão do Jangurussu. Sofreu trabalho infantil nesse Lixão pois era um meio de sobrevivência e de sustento para a família.
