The teacher’s reflection need for the critical use of the foreign language teaching and learning materials

Resumo: This article aims at briefly analyzing and discussing the instrumental and the reflective foreign language teacher education models as well as their pedagogical implications for the use of the foreign language teaching and learning materials. Based on Giroux (1997), Kincheloe (1997), Schön (1988), Perrenoud (2002), Zeichner (2003) and Moita Lopes (2005). the data collected in an investigation carried out in 2006 were re-analyzed. The responses given by the teachers interviewed revealed that, despite working under instrumental orientation, they were critical of the non-autonomous use of teaching materials, thus reinforcing the importance of strengthening reflective foreign language teacher education teaching materials.

Com base em Giroux (1997), Kincheloe (1997), Schön (1988), Perrenoud (2002), Zeichner (2003) e Moita Lopes (2005), reanalisamos os depoimentos de oito professores de línguas estrangeiras de duas instituições de ensino superior, que participaram de pesquisa em 2006, com o objetivo de verificar suas concepções teórico-metodológicas acerca do uso dos materiais de apoio ao ensino e à aprendizagem de línguas.
