Information anxiety from the perspectve of university studentes

Objective: to analyze Information Anxiety in digital media from the perspective of undergraduate nursing students. Methodology: this is a qualitative study, conducted at a higher education institution in Paraíba, with 10 undergraduate nursing students. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and the empirical material was treated using Bardin's content analysis. Results: five classes emerged from the data analysis: 'Filtering information', 'Connecting with the world', 'Accessing social networks', 'Social networks invading the classroom' and 'Putting the cell phone on silent or off'. Conclusions: Information Anxiety was present in the academic environment of undergraduate nursing students, due to the high access to information and use of technological devices. Thus, the behaviors of concern with the reliability of information, loneliness, lack of self-control, self-regulation, need for connection to the virtual world, serendipity, compulsion and dependence on social networks, suffocation by the volume of information, need to keep up to date and search for information on the smartphone were evidenced.
