Resumo: This research aimed to investigate the motivations that cause school dropouts in schools located in the region of influence of the Jacarezinho Campus of UENP - Universidade Estadual do Norte do Paraná. The participants of the research are people from the school body: students, teachers and directors. A posteriori, the transcribed interviews were examined, based on the methodology of content analysis, obtaining 16 emerging categories of analysis representing the causes of school dropouts. It was found that the process of dropping out and leaving school is motivated by several factors originating in different social domains such as: family, school, and socioeconomic. Also, its complex and dynamic characteristics were detected, such as: the causality between the motivators of dropping out and dropping out in the study region.

Los participantes de la investigación son personas del cuerpo escolar: estudiantes, profesores y directores. A posteriori, se examinaron las entrevistas transcritas, con base en la metodología de análisis de contenido, obteniendo 16 categorías de análisis emergentes que representan las causas de la deserción escolar. Se puede observar que el proceso de deserción y deserción escolar está motivado por varios factores provenientes de diferentes dominios sociales, tales como: condiciones familiares, escolares y socioeconómicas. Asimismo, se detectaron sus características complejas y dinámicas, tales como: la causalidad entre las causas de la deserción y la deserción escolar en la región de estudio.Nesta investigaçao, intencionou-se apurar as motivações que causam o abandono escolar em escolas localizadas na região de influência do Campus de Jacarezinho da UENP – Universidade Estadual do Norte do Paraná. Os participantes da pesquisa são pessoas do corpo escolar: discentes, docentes e diretores. A posteriori, examinou-se, fundamentado na metodologia de análise de conteúdo, as entrevistas transcritas, obtendo 16 categorias de análise emergentes representadoras das causas do abandono escolar. Pode-se constatar que o processo de abandono e evasão escolar é motivado por diversos fatores originários de diferentes domínios sociais como: familiares, escolares e socioeconômicos.
