Role of prior knowledge in learning of mathematics at the university

Resumo: | The relevance of systematic study of students´ prior knowledge in the area of mathematics on entering University is highlighted. The theory of learning proposed by Ausubel (1983) and some aspects presented by Lopez (2009) are taken as reference in the paper. They allow the structuring and describe students´ prior knowledge in a systematic way and obtain information beyond the mere knowledge that learners have on the basic contents of Mathematics. For instance, this is true for the information related to their tastes and interests that would enable teachers to adjust teaching strategies to the needs and knowledge of the students. |

En el trabajo se pretende dar a conocer la importancia que tiene el estudio estructurado de los conocimientos previos de estudiantes que recién ingresan a la Universidad en el área de las matemáticas. Para ello sea tomado como referencia la teoría del aprendizaje significativo de Ausubel (1983) y algunos aspectos presentados por López (2009), los cuales permiten estructurar y describir los conocimientos previos de los estudiantes de una manera sistemática y obtener información más allá del mero conocimiento que posee el discente del contenido matemático básico, por ejemplo, información relacionada con sus gustos e intereses, que permitan al docente ajustar sus estrategias de enseñanza a las necesidades y conocimientos de los educandos.
