Resumo: This paper presents a discussion of the sociology discipline, taught in in public high schools in Macapá, State of Amapá. To that end, it brings a historical context of the implementation of the teaching of sociology in Brazil, and a field research on the acceptance of the discipline in public high schools in the city of Macapá, capital of Amapá, in November 2007. The study was supported on the method of direct research, obtaining data from 150 students and teachers of the discipline of sociology. It was found that students have a good acceptance of the discipline, and that it is taught mostly by teachers trained in social sciences or education.

Para tanto, além de uma contextualização do ensino de Sociologia nas escolas públicas brasileiras, fez-se uma pesquisa de campo sobre aceitação da disciplina em estabelecimentos de ensino regular público na cidade, no mês de novembro de 2007. O estudo teve o suporte do método de pesquisa direta, com obtenção de dados de 150 alunos e de professores da disciplina Sociologia.
