Secondary metabolites and toxic potential of the crude hydroethanolic extract of mangaba leaves - Hancornia speciosa Gomes

Resumo: | The use of medicinal plants dates from approximately 10 thousand years before Christ. The therapeutic potential of these plants justifies the performance of chemical analyzes to identify bioactive compounds responsible for the improvement of diseases. In this work, the phytochemistry of mangaba leaves (Hancornia speciosa Gomes) was investigated and its toxic potential was evaluated. The leaves of the plant were collected at Unit I of UFMT/CUA, in Pontal do Araguaia (MT) and the crude extract was obtained by maceration in 70% ethanolic solution. Phytochemical analysis of the crude dry extract obtained was performed using classical colorimetric chemical reactions. The investigation of the toxic potential was carried out against Artemia salina Leach larvae, at concentrations of 15 μg.mL-1, 50 μg.mL-1, 100 μg.mL-1, 500 μg.mL-1, 600 μg.mL-1 and 700 μg.mL-1. The phytochemical screening of secondary metabolites indicated a strong presence of catechins, steroids, phenols, flavanones, flavononols, saponins, tannins and catechetical tannins. It was also observed the absence of a series of other secondary metabolites. The analysis of the extract against A. salina larvae, at different concentrations, revealed toxicity (LC50 = 4035.1 μg.mL-1), raising good indications of a safe use of this extract for therapeutic purposes. The results indicate the presence of interesting secondary metabolites of the class of antioxidants that can present different biological activities, in which the research group is already investigating some, in the sense of searching for new drugs obtained from plants or fruits, especially from the region of Middle Araguaia. |

Investigou-se, neste trabalho, a fitoquímica das folhas de mangaba (Hancornia speciosa Gomes) e avaliou-se seu potencial tóxico. As folhas da planta foram coletadas na Unidade I da UFMT/CUA, em Pontal do Araguaia (MT), e o extrato bruto obtido por maceração em solução etanólica a 70%. A análise fitoquímica do extrato bruto seco obtido foi realizada através de reações químicas clássicas colorimétricas. A investigação do potencial tóxico se deu frente às larvas de Artemia salina Leach, nas concentrações de 15 μg.mL-1, 50 μg.mL-1, 100 μg.mL-1, 500 μg.mL-1, 600 μg.mL-1 e 700 μg.mL-1. A triagem fitoquímica dos metabólitos secundários sinalizou forte presença de catequinas, esteroides, fenóis, flavanonas, flavononóis, saponinas, taninos e taninos catéquicos. Observou-se ainda ausência de uma série de outros metabólitos secundários. A análise do extrato frente às larvas de A. salina, nas diferentes concentrações, revelou atoxicidade (CL50 = 4035,1 μg.mL-1), levantando bons indícios de uma segura utilização desse extrato para fins terapêuticos. Os resultados indicam a presença de metabólitos secundários interessantes da classe dos antioxidantes que podem apresentar diferentes atividades biológicas, sendo que o grupo de pesquisa já se encontra investigando alguns, no sentido da busca de novos fármacos obtidos através de plantas ou frutos, especialmente da região do Médio Araguaia. Resumen Metabolitos secundarios y potencial tóxico del extracto hidroetanólico crudo de hojas de mangaba - Hancornia speciosa Gomes El uso de las plantas medicinales data aproximadamente de 10 mil años antes de Cristo. El potencial terapéutico de estas plantas justifica la realización de análisis químicos para identificar compuestos bioactivos responsables de la mejora de enfermedades. En este trabajo se investigó la fitoquímica de las hojas de mangaba (Hancornia speciosa Gomes) y se evaluó su potencial tóxico. Las hojas de la planta fueron recolectadas en la Unidad I de la UFMT/CUA, en Pontal do Araguaia (MT), y el extracto crudo fue obtenido por maceración en solución etanólica al 70%. El análisis fitoquímico del extracto seco crudo obtenido se realizó mediante reacciones químicas colorimétricas clásicas. La investigación del potencial tóxico se realizó en larvas de Artemia salina Leach, en concentraciones de 15 μg.mL-1, 50 μg.mL-1, 100 μg.mL-1, 500 μg.mL-1, 600 μg.mL-1 y 700 μg.mL-1. El tamizaje fitoquímico de metabolitos secundarios indicó una fuerte presencia de catequinas, esteroides, fenoles, flavanonas, flavononoles, saponinas, taninos y taninos de catequinas. También se observó la ausencia de una serie de otros metabolitos secundarios. El análisis del extracto en larvas de A. salina, a diferentes concentraciones, no reveló toxicidad (CL50 = 4035,1 μg.mL-1), lo que plantea buenos indicios de un uso seguro de este extracto con fines terapéuticos. Los resultados indican la presencia de interesantes metabolitos secundarios de la clase de los antioxidantes que pueden presentar diferentes actividades biológicas, siendo que el grupo de investigación ya investiga algunos, en el sentido de buscar nuevos fármacos obtenidos de plantas o frutos, especialmente de la región de Medio Araguaia.
