The present research deals with the division between knowledge and truth and the consequences of the articulations between these concepts for the subject in psychoanalysis, that is, what such a division, which is sought to sustain in the course of the work, implies for the subject in which psychoanalysis operates. Taking this question as a reference, the research started from the questioning of Freud's own scientificity in reference to the contours that Lacan proposes for this problem, that is, taking the problem of the scientificity of psychoanalysis as a question of division between knowledge and truth for the subject. The paper then makes a retroactive counterpoint between the approach Lacan takes to the discussion between science and psychoanalysis with Freud's work. First, it seeks to identify the points of this division proposed by Lacan in Freud's work and, subsequently, to extract in this context material to think about science for Freud. In the unfolding of the research, the question of the division between knowledge and truth is deepened in the propositions that Lacan enunciates on the subject, with an emphasis on the implications for the subject in his teaching, thus passing through the elaborations regarding the subject of science and the analytic act. Finally, the paper tries to draw greater consequences regarding Lacan's appropriation of the concept of signifier, of modern linguistics, and of his elaboration regarding the object a, precisely to try to elucidate the Lacanian formulation that in psychoanalysis the truth incurs as a material cause, this material cause being the very incidence of the signifier on the subject, and because the object a is the point where he conceives a subject divided between knowledge and truth.
