O Malabar em disputa (séculos XVI-XVII): uma análise das narrativas de Zinadím e Diogo Gonçalves

European expansion in the fifteenth century for different regions of the globe has modified the social relations between the West and the East. The Portuguese encountered new peoples with very different millennial cultural traditions, which provoked ideological clashes between the two sides. And from these new relations between Portugal and India, new modernities have emerged as well as narratives interested in sharing the experience of the contact and in describing this other so different. In this context, we highlight the two works of the authors Zinadím and Diogo Gonçalves that during the XVI and XVII centuries left records about the history of Malabar. Therefore, the present dissertation aims to promote a comparison between them in order to analyze their perceptions about the Malabar territory. We propose to investigate the process of the construction of alterity in the narratives of these two authors and to analyze the interpretations and representations that each one elaborated about the "other" existing in this miscegenated space.
