In this thesis, the general concept of suffering is analyzed, as well as the means in which it is approached by Friedrich Nietzsche. From this analysis, it has been possible to consider two takes on the man who relates with pain. The Übermenschen thought by Nietzsche, points to a man who overcomes his personal limitations and through the comprehension of said overcoming is able to, effectively, succeed through the difficulties. The pain enables him to promote a valuing of that which will be achieved in face of the troubles of life. On the other hand, the last-man, the modern man, proud of his culture and his upbringing which would rise above all the past, believes in the absolute power of his knowledge and his demeanor. However, he represents the degrading of the human being, for it is exactly in him that the transformation of man into an impersonal mass of uniform beings may be identified. There is no doubt that the last-man, presented with pain, suffers and resents it, however it is unclear whether the Übermenschen has a similar reaction when faced with his pains, since he allows will power to act upon himself.
