THE NEWSPAPER AS AID INSTRUMENT FOR GEOGRAPHY EDUCATION IN BASIC EDUCATION

Resumo: This article reports a pedagogical experience in which students from the first year of high school in a private school in Barbacena (MG) produced a newspaper based on photographs taken by themselves. The practice in question was realized in the discipline of Geography in order to encourage students to take a critical reading of the surrounding landscapes and whith often go unnoticed. To make the proposed activity with the use of newspaper in the teaching of geography, a division of the class was made, forming four groups with eight students. Each group was responsible for visiting and registering as photos of five sights of the municipality of Barbacena: the downtown; the Monte Mário Neighborhood Lookout; the Museum of Madness and the churches "Nossa Senhora da Piedade" and "Nossa Senhora da Assunção". Aiming at approaching the proposed theme in a synthetic and orderly way, firstly we make a brief history about the print media and its applicability as paradidact resourc to later present the main results obtained in this pedagogical experience. After the application and development of the project with newspaper, the students showed more interest in the discipline of Geography and, at the same time, they felt more stimulated and valued, because they realized that they are also able to build knowledge and not just receive it passively.

La práctica en cuestión se realizó en la disciplina de Geografí­a para alentar a los estudiantes a leer crí­ticamente los paisajes circundantes y, a menudo, son desapercibidos. Para realizar la actividad propuesta con el uso de periódicos en la enseñanza de la geografí­a, primero se realizó una división de la clase, formando cuatro grupos con ocho estudiantes. Cada grupo fue responsable de visitar y grabar fotos de cinco lugares de interés en el municipio de Barbacena: el centro de la ciudad; el mirador del barrio Monte Mário; El Museo de la Locura y las iglesias "Nossa Senhora da Piedade" y "Nossa Senhora da Piedade". Con el objetivo de abordar el tema propuesto de una manera sintética y ordenada, primero hacemos una breve historia sobre los medios impresos y su aplicabilidad como recursos paradidmáticos para luego presentar los principales resultados obtenidos en esta experiencia pedagógica. Después de la aplicación y el desarrollo del proyecto con el periódico, los estudiantes mostraron más interés en la disciplina de Geografí­a y, al mismo tiempo, se sintieron más estimulados y valorados, porque se dieron cuenta de que también son capaces de construir conocimiento y no solo recibirlo pasivamente.O presente artigo relata uma experiência pedagógica em que alunos do 1º ano do ensino médio de uma escola particular do municí­pio de Barbacena (MG) produziram um jornal a partir de fotografias registradas por eles próprios. A prática em questão foi realizada na disciplina de Geografia com o objetivo de estimular os estudantes a lerem criticamente as paisagens que estão ao seu redor e, muitas vezes, passam despercebidas. Para realizar a atividade proposta com o uso de jornal no ensino de Geografia primeiramente foi feita uma divisão da turma, formando quatro grupos com oito alunos. Cada grupo ficou responsável por visitar e registrar as fotos de cinco pontos turí­sticos do municí­pio de Barbacena: o centro da cidade; o Mirante do Bairro Monte Mário; o Museu da Loucura e as igrejas "Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Piedade" e "Nossa Senhora de Assunção". Visando abordar a temática proposta de maneira sintética e ordenada, primeiramente realizamos um breve histórico sobre as mí­dias impressas e suas aplicabilidades como recursos paradidáticos para, posteriormente, apresentarmos os principais resultados obtidos nesta experiência pedagógica.
