Resumo: This article aims to reflect on the meaning of education in view of the impact of educational reforms on human development, specifically the Reforma do Ensino Médio, proposed by Law nº. 13.415/2017, in the last phase of basic education. It presents as problematizing issues the precariousness of public education based on alliances with private interests and the standardization of actions based on educational policies, disregarding local autonomy and heterogeneity. Elaborated from the analysis of the documents that give legal and normative basis to the Reforma do Ensino Médio and through a bibliographical review to consolidate a theoretical contribution that subsidizes such discussion. Thus, authors such as Marx (2013), Mészáros (2008) Bourdieu (2015), as well as others, are used to seek in critical theory the real sociocultural meaning of education. As a result, the quality of education does not depend on educational policies.

Apresenta como questões problematizadoras a precarização do ensino público, a partir de alianças com interesses privados, e a padronização de ações, a partir das políticas educacionais, desconsiderando a autonomia e a heterogeneidade locais. Elaborado a partir de análise dos documentos que dão embasamento legal e normativo à Reforma do Ensino Médio e através de uma revisão bibliográfica para consolidar um aporte teórico que subsidie tal discussão. Assim, recorre-se a autores como Marx (2013), Mészáros (2008), Bourdieu (2015), além de outros, para buscar na teoria crítica o real sentido sociocultural da educação.
