Crenças de professores no ensino de língua inglesa na educação básica: reflexos do fazer pedagógico

This study seeks to reflect on the beliefs of English-speaking teachers at a public high school in Alagoas. This qualitative work is based on the theoretical studies of Barcelos (2006, 2012) and Makiyama (2015), and adopts lesson observation and a questionnaire to survey are three English teachers who work in a public school in Palmeira dos Índios, a town located in the countryside of Alagoas. The results of this study reveal four most recurring beliefs related to English teaching and learning process, they are the ones that students have no interest in learning English, teaching English is not effective at school, the good English teacher needs to have linguistic and methodological knowledge and that the teacher has to have flexible teaching. These negative beliefs of teachers in this area make them perpetuate and reinforce the way of teaching in this educational space.
