Resumo: The article discusses the process of qualification of the workforce by reference to the transformation of production relations in the transition from manufacturing to industrial production, the last decades of the nineteenth and early twentieth century, the concurrent process of extinction slave labor, introduction and consolidation of employment. In this context, education fulfilling the strategic role of forming the new employee to meet the demands for education and training of the workforce for the emerging Brazilian productive system. These changes in the forms of organizing production and work engendered new educational processes, which change as capitalism advances, changing the relations of production and expanding the division of labor.

En este contexto, la educación cumple el papel estratégico de la formación del nuevo empleado para satisfacer las demandas de educación y capacitación de la mano de obra para la creación del sistema productivo brasileño. Estas transformaciones en las formas de organizar la producción y el trabajo engendra nuevos procesos educativos, que cambian a medida que avanza el capitalismo, cambiando las relaciones de producción y la ampliación de la división del trabajo.O artigo pretende discutir o processo de qualificação da força de trabalho tendo como referência as transformações das relações de produção na fase da transição da produção manufatureira para a industrial, nas últimas décadas do século XIX e nas iniciais do século XX, no processo concomitante de extinção do trabalho escravo, introdução e consolidação do trabalho assalariado. Nesse contexto, a educação cumpria o papel estratégico de formadora do novo trabalhador, para atendimento às demandas por escolarização e formação da força de trabalho para o emergente sistema produtivo brasileiro.
