Transfer of Technology from the University to the Market: patent case study of cigarette filter recycling process

Technology transfer is one of the means of diffusion of innovation, including sustainable and environmentally responsible technologies. This study sought to explain the case of technology transfer in a relationship between university and industry, in order to outline relevant aspects for future cases. Through document analysis, this study investigated the licensing process of Patent PI 0305004-1, for recycling cigarette filters, carried out by the University of Brasília with the company Poiato Recicla, in order to evidence the transfer carried out, the lessons learned from the case specific, impacts for the company and university. The research identified the need for improvement in the evaluation of the business model and in the planning of the evolution of technology in licensing agreements between university and industry. As a result of the study, a proposal for improved technology transfer processes was presented with the support of the universities' technological innovation centers.
