In Brazil, although trademarks represent the most common type of industrial property, the failure percentage of registration requests is expressive. This study aimed at providing further knowledge on the formalization of requests at INPI, and demystifying questions about the trademark process through analyzing the case study of @somoauditores, an initiative created in the social networks. Therefore, a descriptive, qualitative and applied approach was used to characterize and analyze the main steps leading to the request protocol, in order to clarify and reinforce essential guidelines, highlight difficulties and share the lessons learned. In conclusion, it was observed that the trademark process is long, rather expensive and complex as it requires specific knowledge. However, it can be done without intermediary agents, through studying and getting in grips with the related legislation, guidelines and regulations issued by INPI. Moreover, frequent follow-up of the process is important after the application has been deposited.
