Physical education has the body and the movement as study object, being responsibility of the physical education classes in schools to embrace all the forms of the so called corporal culture, including in its contents the games, sports, dances, gymnastics and martial arts. The teacher is responsible for the mediator role in the knowledge construction, creating the spaces, providing materials and participating of the activities. Children develop themselves through recreation, and the bigger the opportunities to manipulate different objects and to develop different activities are the greater will be the motor repertoire of the child. In this sense, our objective was to elucidate the important role of the inclusion of recreational activities and toys as tools for children’s learning process. We conclude that the games and toys are important tools in children's learning and the use of alternative materials in physical education classes can be an interesting strategy to work the ludic, creativity and self-esteem of students.
