The use of dicionaries in reading classes of Spanish as Foreign Language for Brazilians

Resumo: The dictionary is a work of great importance to develop the learning of first and foreign languages. In order to use a dictionary successfully, the teachers must have the expertise so they can teach their students how to handle it with skill and confidence. Dictionaries help the students in many occasions, such as in reading comprehension activities. This study was developed with the Spanish students of the spanish course. The study is based on the following theorist: Moreno Fernández (1999), Cano Ginés (2004) y Maldonado (2012, 2017), who deal with pedagogical lexicology, and is is case study with a qualitative approach. They answered a reading activity using different dictionaries, and one group did not use any dictionary to make it possible to compare the results. From the analysis, it is possible to affirm that the dictionary does offer important information for the good performance of the students’ reading learning.

Para su buen uso, los profesores deben estar bastante familiarizados con él para que puedan enseñar a sus estudiantes a utilizarlo con destreza y confianza. Esta obra ayuda al consultante en muchas ocasiones como, por ejemplo, en la comprensión lectora. El estudio está basado en los siguientes teóricos: Moreno Fernández (1999), Cano Ginés (2004) y Maldonado (2012, 2017) que tratan de la Lexicografía Pedagógica. Este estudio de caso y de naturaleza cualitativa fue desarrollado con los alumnos de español como lengua extranjera del sexto y séptimo semestres de un curso de idiomas en Fortaleza por medio de una actividad de lectura en la que un grupo debía usar diferentes diccionarios y otro grupo no usarlos con el fin de comparar los resultados.
