Resumo: | This paper analyzes the triple peripheral condition of the Mulheres do GAU collective, a group of urban women farmers from São Paulo, Brazil: we argue that this collective positions itself on the periphery of the economy, of labor, and the city. These women are part of the popular economy, a perennial condition in Latin America that evidences multiple non-salary labor configurations, making up an economy's periphery. Among those configurations, the ones responsible for reproducing life usually are relegated to people with feminized bodies, made invisible when subsumed under the link between labor and salary, constituting a periphery of work. Finally, the collective embodies everyday life features on the city's outskirts by exposing layers of structural deprivation in capitalist urbanization. Thus, the periphery constitutes one of the poles of the center-periphery dialectical pair, a product of the unequal development of capitalism, which attributes to the latter the contradictory content of capital reproduction. |
