Resumo: This article aims to analyze how Environmental Education (EE) is being worked in Geography classes in Elementary School in the municipality of João Alfredo - PE in the light of a methodology of qualitative and exploratory approach. As procedures for analysis and data collection, bibliographic research was carried out, together with a survey using a questionnaire, applied to teachers who teach Geography in the Elementary School in the municipality of João Alfredo - PE. From the results obtained, it can be concluded that teachers who teach Geography, for the most part, have difficulties in working the themes of EE due to some factors, such as, for example, the fact that the BNCC does not value the EE, lack of support from the management team (managers and coordinators), difficulties to teaching materials beyond the textbook, limited workload, and lack of training in geography (degree) by many professionals who teach geography in the municipal network of the municipality João Alfredo. It was also reported by respondents that the Covid-19 pandemic motivated them to work on environmental education recurrently, showing its importance in the context of teaching Geography.

It was also reported by respondents that the Covid-19 pandemic motivated them to work on environmental education recurrently, showing its importance in the context of teaching Geography.El presente articulo tiene como objetivo analizar como la Educación Ambiental (EA) está siendo trabajada en las clases de Geografía en la Enseñanza Fundamental en el municipio de João Alfredo- PE a la luz de una metodología de abordaje cualitativa y exploratoria.  Como procedimientos de analices y coleta de dados fue realizada una pesquisa bibliográfica aislada a un sondaje a partir de un cuestionario, aplicado con los profesores que enseñan Geografía en la Enseñanza Fundamental del municipio de João Alfredo- PE. A partir de los resultados obtenidos, se puede concluir que los profesores que enseñan Geografía, en su mayoría, tienen dificultades en trabajar las temáticas de la EA en razón de algunos factores, como, por ejemplo, el facto de la BNCC no valorizar la EA, la falta de apoyo de la equipe gestora, dificultades con los materiales didácticos, además del libro didáctico y limitaciones de carga horaria. También fue informado por los entrevistados que la pandemia de Covid-19 he motivado a trabajar la EA recurrentemente, mostrando su importancia en el contexto del enseño de Geografía.O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar como a Educação Ambiental (EA) está sendo trabalhada nas aulas de Geografia no Ensino Fundamental no município de João Alfredo - PE à luz de uma metodologia de abordagem qualitativa e exploratória. Como procedimentos de análise e coleta de dados foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica aliada a uma sondagem a partir de um questionário, aplicado aos professores que lecionam Geografia no Ensino Fundamental do município de João Alfredo - PE. A partir dos resultados obtidos, pôde-se concluir que os professores que lecionam Geografia, em sua maioria, têm dificuldades em trabalhar as temáticas de EA em razão de alguns fatores, como, por exemplo, o fato da Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC) não valorizar a EA, a falta de apoio da equipe gestora (gestores e coordenadores), dificuldades a materiais didáticos além do livro didático, limitação da carga horária e a falta de formação em geografia (licenciatura) por parte de muitos profissionais que lecionam geografia na rede municipal do município João Alfredo.
