Resumo: doi: 10.5216/ree.v12i3.6953In our experience we have identified that the approach to people with diabetes mellitus (DM) has been focused on actions to control and monitoring the disease, and disregard the consequences and confrontations that these people experience in their daily lives. This is a qualitative, descriptive, Case Study aimed to understand the repercussions and confrontations that people with chronic conditions by DM experience in their daily lives. The apprehension of the data was based on the methodological strategy of the History of Life which was implemented by the Focal Depth Interview. The study was conducted with a person with diabetes who was hospitalized in public hospital at Cuiabá/MT, in 2007, Data analysis allowed to understand that daily life is marked by confrontation and consequences increase as the phases of exacerbations and complications of the disease, (re) arrangements added to the daily fear of dependence on others for care and fear of death. This study enables, invites us and (re) think the practice of management attention and focused on individuals and families in chronic condition of diabetes. Se trata de un estudio cualitativo, descriptivo, tipo estudio de caso cuyo objetivo fue comprender las repercusiones y los enfrentamientos que las personas con enfermedades crónicas por DM pasan en su vivencia cotidiana. La presentación de los datos se basó en la estrategia metodológica de la Historia de Vida Focal que fue implementado por la Entrevista en Profundidad. El estudio se realizó con una persona con diabetes que he sido hospitalizado en hospital público en Cuiabá/MT, en 2007, con una persona con DM que estuvo internado en hospital público por complicaciones secundarias. El análisis de datos permitió comprender que la vida cotidiana que es marcada por la confrontación y repercusiones como aumento de las fases de las exacerbaciones y complicaciones de la enfermedad, (re) agregado cotidianos añadidos a el miedo de la dependencia del otro para el cuidado y miedo de la muerte. Este estudio permite y nos invita a (re) pensar las prácticas de la atención y de gestión centrada en las personas y familias en condición crónica por la DM. Descriptores: Diabetes mellitus; Enfermedad crônica; Actividades cotidianas.doi: 10.5216/ree.v12i3.6953 Em nossa experiência profissional temos identificado que abordagem às pessoas com diabetes mellitus (DM) tem sido centrado nas ações de controle e monitoramento da doença, sendo que desconsideram as repercussões e enfretamentos que essas pessoas vivenciam no seu cotidiano. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, descritivo, tipo Estudo de Caso que teve como objetivo compreender as repercussões e enfrentamentos que as pessoas em condição crônica por DM vivenciam em seu cotidiano. A apreensão dos dados foi fundamentada na estratégia metodológica da História de Vida Focal que foi operacionalizada pela Entrevista em Profundidade. O estudo foi realizado em Cuiabá/MT, em 2007, com uma pessoa com DM que esteve internado em hospital público por complicações secundárias. A análise dos dados possibilitou compreender que a vida cotidiana que é marcada por enfrentamentos e repercussões como aumento das fases de agudizações e complicações da doença, (re) arranjos cotidianos somados ao medo da dependência do outro para o cuidado e medo da morte. Este estudo possibilita e nos convida e (re) pensarmos as práticas de atenção e de gestão centrada nas pessoas e famílias em condição crônica por DM.
