Resumo: This article shows and discusses the linguistic State policies for the BrazilianIndigenous Peoples, from colonization on, assuming that those policies will beeffective only in connection with other measures to be taken by the State,mainly those regarding the official registration, safeguarding, and the usufructof the Indigenous Peoples lands by themselves. It is also called attention to therole of linguists in this process.
