Resumo: This paper aims at discussing how translation was present in the work of the Kenyan author Ngugi wa Thiong’o. Using theories about the autotranslation and ideas from Antoine Berman, here I try to show how translation intertwined the ways of that author, constituting a strategy so that he could handle, in a dialogic manner, the different cultures from and to he makes his work. I noted that Ngugi found in the ethical exercise of translation, an in-between, through which he could handle two distinct traditions.

Filiando-me a teorias acerca da autotradução e às ideias de Antoine Berman, tentei aqui mostrar como a tradução permeou os caminhos do referido autor, constituindo estratégia para que o mesmo pudesse dar conta, de forma dialógica, das diferentes culturas para as quais e a partir das quais produz sua obra.
