Resumo: The translation of Memes of Translation, by Andrew Chesterman, was carried out by the research group Key Texts in Translation at the Federal University of Bahia and guided by the functionalist theory, its purpose (REIß and VERMEER, 2014) and intra and extratextual factors of analysis (NORD, 2016). Thus, the translation of the examples that illustrate the thirty translation strategies listed by Chesterman was adapted from a German-English corpus to a Portuguese-English one with the aim of approaching linguistic and cultural understandings to a Brazilian audience interested in translation theories. In this sense, Nord's (2016) principle of loyalty was used to ensure that the adaptation of the examples respected their informative content, Chesterman's arguments, and the readership’s understanding. As a result, the examples underwent multiple adaptations, from word classes to genre, depending on the case, but always fulfilling the purpose of the translation.
