Implementation of the Singular Therapeutic Project at a teaching hospital: experience report

Introduction: The Singular Therapeutic Project is a series of proposals focusing on articulated therapeutic approaches, arising from a joint debate of an interdisciplinary team, including matrix support. A teaching hospital linked to Ebserh started the establishment of the Singular Therapeutic Project so as to follow the recommendation of Healthcare Humanization Guidelines and deliver comprehensive healthcare. Objectives: To describe the process of establishment and implementation of Singular Therapeutic Project at a teaching hospital. Experience Report: The team in charge for establishing and implementing the Singular Therapeutic Project at this institution joined in February 2018, made up by professionals from several areas such as medicine, psychology, nursing, social work, physiotherapy, phonoaudiology, nutrition and the internal regulation department. 110 patients searching for care in general practice, surgical practice and pediatry were evaluated by March 2020. Using the tools from Singular Therapeutic Project, some improvements were observed such as strengthening multiprofissional teamwork; promoting better knowledge and coordination with the Healthcare Network; optimization length of hospital stay; sharing discharges; encouraging greater participation of patients and their families at health-disease-care process and the expansion to other hospital sectors. The challenges facing Singular Therapeutic Project implementation at the above- mentioned institution were the increase in the demand for services and lack of human resources; issues concerning professionals, such as staff shortage, turnover, poor training; troubles with teamwork; long hospitalizations because health professionals do not follow the flows and the vulnerability of healthcare network regarding specific service provision. Conclusion: The establishment of the Singular Therapeutic Project provides support to this hospital for a broad understanding of how the enhanced perception of a particular health condition and teamwork transform healthcare and ensure more effective and long-lasting results.
