Resumo: | The poetry of Jean Cocteau (1889-1963) expresses itself also in his films, which constitute a true artistic legacy for world cinema history, reverberating in productions by other directors, from his contemporaries to present-day films, from Roberto Rossellini to Pedro Almodóvar, from Jacques Demy to Xavier Dolan. Aiming at identifying some aspects that would allow us to establish a certain unity of style in such diverse oeuvre, this article exposes a three-pronged analysis of Cocteau’s film production: poetry and editing techniques; genres and adaptations; and first-person cinema – contributing, thus, to understanding the longevity of this powerful poetics, created over half a century ago. |
