Changes in the world of work and expansion of private higher education at the city of Manaus/AM

This production intends to shed light on the world of work from the last decades of 20th century, and has, as its objects, the expansion of higher education in the private higher education at the city of Manaus and the absorption of labor in the productive sector of Manaus’ Industrial Pole (MIP). The study adopts a bibliographic approach and was built in the light of readings and debates occurred on the Group on Public Policies and Education /GPPE, from Federal University of Amazonas. It is divided into three topics. The first deals with the changes in the world of work, its repercussions for the working class, and its impact on contemporary society, based on the works of Harvey (1992; 2014), Antunes (2011), Salerno (2008) and Hirata (2008). The second topic makes an incursion into the process of the historical development of school and its role for labor skilling in relation to production, reproduction and capital accumulation. The third topic presents some comments about Neoliberal State and its ideology of “free market”. The research points to the existence of a mismatch between the spreading of private institutions at the city of Manaus and the low absorption of skilled labor by the local industries, which shows a contradictory process, since the expansion of private high education at the city of Manaus is also fostered as a requirement of skilled labor provision for the MIP.
