Resumo: The aim of this article is to provide a panoramic view on the teaching work, more specifically about the precarization process to which teachers from Latin America and, in particular, from Brazil are submitted. This is a study based on a literary review of articles and books published in the last two decades, mainly by Latin American authors. The text points to the fact that education systems, schools and the teaching work in the region have been restructured, as a result of the educational reforms of neoliberal nature implemented since the 1990s. Such restructuring without considering the need for appropriate adjustments such as mainly increase of salary for teachers and better working conditions, has meant intensification of teacher´s work and greater liability of teachers, which leads to precarization of work. Finally, the article defends that universities and schools in the region continue to serve as spaces of resistance against new forms of colonialism and advancement of (ultra) neoliberal policies.
