Mapping the teaching of integrative and complementary practices in Nursing, Medicine, and Odontology undergraduate courses

Resumo: | This study investigated the offer of subjects approaching Complementary and Integrative Health Practices in Nursing, Medicine and Odontology undergraduate courses offered by Brazilian public universities. The courses were mapped using the National Academic Courses and Institutions (Cadastro E-Mec), followed by a document analysis (pedagogical project and/or study program) made available in the universities’ official websites. Data concordance was tested by an inter-judge analysis, with posterior descriptive statistics being provided. The theme has been included more and more in syllabuses when in comparison to what is pointed out by literature, however, this topic remains not very expressive in universities, given the demand of the population. The greater part of curricular components was offered in Medicine and Nursing courses in universities of Northeastern and Southeastern regions, out of which, optative curricular components predominated. Amongst these, only a small fraction had practical activities. Topics of a generalist nature, with a great interface with Public Health, stand out in the curricula. |

Topics of a generalist nature, with a great interface with Public Health, stand out in the curricula.El estudio analizó la oferta de asignaturas que abordan las Prácticas de Salud Integral y Complementaria en las graduaciones de Enfermería, Medicina y Odontología en las universidades públicas brasileñas. El mapeo se realizó a través de los datos disponibles en el sitio del Registro Nacional de Cursos e Instituciones de Educación Superior (Registro E-mec) y el posterior análisis de los documentos (Proyecto Político Pedagógico, matriz curricular y/o planes de estudio) disponibles en los sitios oficiales de las universidades. La concordancia de los datos se comprobó mediante la evaluación inter-jueces y se realizaron estadísticas descriptivas. Hubo un aumento de la oferta curricular sobre el tema, en relación con lo planteado en la literatura, por lo que sigue siendo poco expresivo en las universidades, dada la demanda de la población. La mayoría de los componentes curriculares se ofrecían en los cursos de Enfermería y Medicina de las universidades de las regiones Noreste y Sureste. Predominaron los componentes curriculares opcionales y sólo un pequeño número desarrolló actividades prácticas. Los temas de carácter generalista con una gran interfaz con la Salud Pública destacan en los planes de estudio.O estudo analisou a oferta de disciplinas abordando as Práticas Integrativas e Complementares em Saúde nas graduações em Enfermagem, Medicina e Odontologia de universidades públicas brasileiras. O mapeamento foi realizado a partir de dados disponibilizados no site do Cadastro Nacional de Cursos e Instituições de Ensino Superior (Cadastro e-MEC) e por posterior análise de documentos (projeto político-pedagógico, matriz curricular e/ou ementário), disponibilizados nos sites oficiais das universidades. A concordância dos dados foi testada pela avaliação inter-juízes e pela realização de estatística descritiva. Em relação ao apontado na literatura, houve um aumento na oferta curricular sobre o tema, porém, esse tópico continua pouco expressivo nas universidades, face à demanda da população. A maioria dos componentes curriculares foram ofertados nos cursos de Enfermagem e Medicina de universidades públicas das regiões Nordeste e Sudeste. Predominaram componentes curriculares optativos e apenas um pequeno número destes desenvolveu atividades práticas.
